They are adding a brand new, $2 million waterslide to their <a href="/things-to-do/dollywood-splash-country/">Splash Country waterpark</a> in 2017! The new slide will be called TailSpin Racer and will be 5 stories tall and longer than a football field. It will feature 6 slides where people can race to the bottom…starting with high-speed enclosed AquaTubes and then ending with a heart-pumping drop and splash at the end.

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve been sharing rumors and news of Dollywood’s new ride for 2016 in our <a href="/blog/things-to-do/new-dollywood-roller-coaster-in-2016/">very detailed article</a>…and we now have an official announcement which confirms a lot of the tips we’ve leaked along the way! <a href="/things-to-do/dollywood-schedule/">Dollywood</a> has announced the world’s <em>first</em> launched wooden roller coaster coming in Spring 2016! It will also be the world’s <em>fastest</em> roller coaster topping out at 73mph! The new coaster will be called Lightning Rod and themed after “a tricked out 1950s-era hot rod”. It will be located in Jukebox Junction next to Rockin’ Roadway and will be Dollywood’s largest investment in a single ride at a cost of around $22 million! This is definitely going to be one of the most anticipated roller coasters in the world for 2016 with numerous exciting elements…let’s go over the details!

If a certain “hot sign” makes your mouth water for fresh donuts, then you’re going to love this! A brand new Krispy Kreme opens in Pigeon Forge on December 22, 2015 at 6:00 a.m.! The brand new Krispy Kreme is located beside the old location, which is on the south end of Pigeon Forge (the end closest to Gatlinburg). The new location is much larger and features tables to enjoy those delicious little circles of sugary goodness. Below you can see photos of a similar Krispy Kreme that this new one is designed like. You can see the tables, expanded counter space, window for viewing the making of the doughnuts, etc. Below the photos, you can see the grand-opening poster featuring a special treat for the first 100 people in line on Tuesday morning December 22, 2015 when they open at 6:00 a.m.!

Pigeon Forge is about to be home to a brand new restaurant that is sure to quickly become one of the <a href="/restaurants/">most popular places to eat in the Smokies</a>! Paula Deen is coming to “butter people up” in the Smokies by opening a restaurant at <a href="/things-to-do/the-island/">The Island in Pigeon Forge</a>. The original opening date was scheduled to be in late summer 2014, but they revised their plan to add more seating and kitchen space which pushed the opening date back and it will <strong>open April 27, 2015!</strong> The name will be Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen and is said to have a budget of $20 million to get it up and running, which makes it one of the highest-funded restaurants in Pigeon Forge! On their <a href="https://pauladeensfamilykitchen.com/" target="_blank">official website</a> there is a question as to if Paula Deen will be at the Restaurant and it says, “Yes, the whole family will be here and are extensively involved in every aspect of the operation, menu, and design.” Neat! As to when they will be there and how often, that’s a bit unknown as of now, but it sounds like they will at least be there for the grand opening!

Pigeon Forge has a brand new seafood restaurant called Harpoon Harry’s Crab House! If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it has a popular sister restaurant in Punta Gorda, FL. Harpoon Harry’s in Pigeon Forge is a 25,000-square-foot seafood restaurant and bar with an incredibly unique and custom decor. It features $50,000 in custom woodwork and carvings by Smoky Mountain craftsman, Randy Boni. They brought in about 8 different species of local hardwood and did all of the carving at the restaurant including dark walnut front doors, custom bar, restrooms, and just about every detail in between.

On the show, they showcase some of their most outrageous, truly one-of-a-kind aquariums they design for customers all over the world. They designed and built an incredible “moonshine aquarium” for the lobby at the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show in Pigeon Forge! The aquarium weighs almost five tons, holds 1,100 gallons of water, and features over 50 fish! The show was a lot of fun as the cast of the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner show got involved as well.

The Ole Smoky Moonshine Gatlinburg location opened in 2010 and has become America’s most visited distillery and the brand has exploded in popularity becoming the leading distiller of premium moonshine in the United States. Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is coming soon to Pigeon Forge, TN! The new Pigeon Forge Margaritaville is planned to open with a special ceremony at 9:30am on June 16, 2014. It is located at <a href="/things-to-do/the-island/">The Island in Pigeon Forge</a>, which is a large new entertainment complex featuring the 200ft Great Smoky Mountain Wheel as the centerpiece. Pigeon Forge has had quite a few big <a href="/restaurants/">restaurants</a> coming to town or opening soon such as <a href="/blog/restaurants/cheddars-restaurant-pigeon-forge-tn/">Cheddar’s</a>, <a href="/blog/restaurants/margaritaville-pigeon-forge-tn/">Margaritaville</a>, and <a href="/blog/restaurants/hard-rock-cafe-pigeon-forge-tn/">Hard Rock Cafe</a>. Dick’s Last Resort is one of the new restaurants coming and will be opening on April 8, 2014 at The Island in Pigeon Forge. There is currently a Dick’s Last Resort in neighboring <a href="https://www.gatlinburgtnguide.com/" target="_blank">Gatlinburg</a>, so it’s unclear at this time if it will relocate or if they will keep both locations. Hard Rock is in a similar situation, but Hard Rock will close the Gatlinburg location when they open in Pigeon Forge…so perhaps Dick’s Last Resort will be doing the same…we’ll let you know when we find out.

<strong>UPDATED Thursday October 17, 2013</strong> – With the government shutdown now over, the federal government has completely opened back up which means all of the national parks including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are open once again. This includes all hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, overlooks, etc. The opening takes place right at the peak of the fall colors at the highest elevations of the Smokies so it’s a perfect time to get out and enjoy the <a href="https://www.gatlinburgtnguide.com/fall-colors-forecast/" title="Gatlinburg Fall Colors Forecast and Foliage Report" target="_blank">beautiful fall colors in the Great Smoky Mountains</a>!
